Obituary for Eddie Nixon

Eddie Nixon
Eddie Nixon, 101, of New Castle, passed away the morning of August 2, 2017 at his residence. Born on January 2, 1916 in Jamestown, SC, he was the son of the late Simon and Janie Hallback Nixon. On May 15, 1941, he married his beloved wife, the former Daisy Pryor, and the two of them spent 71 years together until she preceded him in death on December 22, 2012.

After 25 years of working, Eddie retired as a track layer for B&O Railroad. He also had previously worked for Fenati Brickyard, Waldman’s Meats, New Castle Foundry, and Allied Van. Eddie served his country as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II, earning the Good Conduct, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service with one bronze star, and World War II Victory Medals. He was a member of Ebenezer Church of God in Christ. Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing cards.

Eddie is survived by his children, Annie Nixon, Leslie Hollins and husband Sam, Marlene Nixon, Michelle Krumm and husband Greg, all of New Castle, Ernestine Morgan of Youngstown, OH, Darrell Nixon of New Castle, and Michael Nixon and wife Tina of Washington, PA; son-in-law, Willie Foster of New Castle; daughter-in-law, Anita Dixon of New Castle; 45 grandchildren; over 30 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Edward, Albert, and Lionel Nixon; daughters, Audrey Nixon Foster, Joan Nixon, Elizabeth Prioleau, and Beverly Nixon Perkins; daughter-in-law, LaChelle Lowe-Nixon; and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 11, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Ebenezer Church of God in Christ 1119 S Jefferson St, New Castle, PA 16101. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites Friday at 1:00pm at the church followed by homegoing services, conducted by Reverend Gary Clark.

Interment will take place in Parkside Cemetery.
