Obituary for Richard Joseph Brindza
Richard Joseph Brindza, 75, of Neshannock Township, passed away the morning of May 17, 2017 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Born on May 3, 1942 in Cleveland, OH, he was the son of the late Joseph and Angeline Yurcak Brindza. He is survived by his loving wife, the former Marilyn Serignese Dantico, whom he married on March 26, 2000.
Richard attended St. Mel Grade School, St. Edward High School, and The University of Kentucky.
In 1967, he joined the Cleveland Police Department. He worked street patrol in many of the roughest areas of Cleveland and was promoted to Sergeant in 1976. He worked as a Detective Sergeant until his retirement in January 1990. Richard also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
In 1997, Richard became manager of Neshannock Woods Apartments for the elderly. He was promoted to Senior Manager in 2001 and managed Buchanan Manor in Wheatland, PA along with Neshannock Woods. Richard retired on December 31, 2014 after 17 years.
He was a lifelong Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers fan. He spent time during his youth selling score cards at Cleveland Stadium during which time he met many Hall of Fame athletes. He enjoyed fishing, classic cars, gardening, and sports. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in football, basketball, and baseball. Richard was a member of St. Vitus Church.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his son, Joseph Brindza of Wheatland, PA; step-daughters, Joelle Dantico Mills and husband Tom of Las Vegas, NV and Cristin Dantico McDougal and husband Bobbie of Neshannock Township; step-grandchildren, Tori Mills, Caleb Wooley, and Gavin Wooley; brother, Dennis Brindza of Cleveland, OH; and sister, Geraldine Bouchard of Wisconsin.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory 941 S Mill St. A procession will leave the funeral home Saturday at 9:30am to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, officiated by Father William Siple of Mary Mother of Hope Parish.
Entombment will take place in Resurrection Mausoleum.
